DHMİ TAKES ITS PLACE AT THE 17TH ITS EUROPE CONGRESS

The Directorate General of State Airports Authority (DHMI) participated in the 17th ITS Europe Congress, held in Istanbul from April 27 to 29, 2026, under the auspices of our Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.

DHMI took part in the 17th ITS Europe Congress in order to closely follow developments in the field of intelligent transportation systems, meet with international stakeholders, and share its institutional experience on a global scale. Continuing its work through air navigation services, airport operations, digital transformation, and advanced technology-focused applications, our organization had the opportunity at this important platform—one of Europe’s leading gatherings—to closely observe innovative approaches in transportation and to share its institutional know-how at the international level.

Bringing together mobility, technology, and policy on a common platform, the congress serves as an important international forum that brings together public institutions, industry representatives, researchers, technology developers, and decision-makers. The 2026 theme of the congress was set as “Bridging Innovation: Integrated, safe and seamless mobility,” while the program highlighted topics such as safety and resilience, multimodal mobility management, smart and sustainable logistics, and non-road transport and mobility. The program also features innovative solutions, best practice examples, high-level sessions, technical visits, and field applications.

Speaking on the panel held as part of the congress, DHMI Deputy General Manager and Board Member Dr. Cengiz Paşaoğlu stated that artificial intelligence is increasingly influencing many areas of aviation, such as maintenance, airport operations, passenger flow, planning, efficiency, and sustainability. Noting that AI in air traffic management stands out as an important element that strengthens situational awareness and supports decision-making processes, Paşaoğlu emphasized that human expertise and operational judgment will continue to remain at the core of the system. He added that Türkiye’s flexible air traffic control structure and the simultaneous triple independent runway operations implemented at Istanbul Airport demonstrate the importance of advanced technology and decision-support systems in high-density air traffic processes.

At this important congress, which provides an international platform for sharing the applications and strategic approaches shaping the future of transportation, we at DHMI continue, in line with our safe, efficient, sustainable, and technology-supported service approach, to closely follow developments in intelligent transportation and to further advance our efforts that contribute to our nations “Century of Türkiye” transportation vision.

We remain firmly committed to closely monitoring developments shaped by digitalization, integration, and innovation in the transportation sector, and to actively participating in platforms that support cooperation at both the national and international levels.
